About "The Conquest"
Here is Historical Fiction at its best. The Conquest is seen from each side of the Military, Political, and Religious conflict in the battle to conquer Mexico and the heart of the Aztec Empire, Tenochtitlan (Mexico City)
Gold and Silver were the primary drugs that drove Cortes and his wealth hungry Spanish Soldiers to seek out, against the most impossible of odds, the Aztec's Treasure city of Tenoch.
The Aztec Emperor Montezuma II indoctrinated by the religious philosophy of his Empire, truly believed that Cortes was the embodyment of the exiled Plumed Serpent God, Quetzalcoatl, and according to religious teachings, Quetzalcoatl was to return from the east in the Aztec Year One-Reed (1519 CE) to reclaim his lands, which included all of the Aztec Empire.
From the Aztec Family of the lovers Jaguar and Five Rabbit, we see through their eyes the conflict between the two incompatable cultures, where the gods and fates deal out their harsh realities to both the Spanish and the Aztecs.
The book has extensive maps, illustrations, Aztec Calenders covering the years from 1516 to 1521, and a large section of relevant Historical Notes, and Source Material.
